소태산 대종사

원불교는 새 성자에 의하여 만들어진 새로운 종교이다. 원불교를 이해하려면, 세 개의 낱말을 이해하는 것이 좋다. 그 세 개의 낱말은 소태산 대종사少太山 大宗師·일원상一圓相·원불교圓佛敎이다.

 

소태산 대종사는 원불교를 창건한 교조의 법호法號. 소태산와 존칭尊稱. 대종사이다. 소태산 대종사는 약칭하여 ‘대종사’로 표현하기도 하고, 이름 그대로 ‘박중빈朴重彬’이라고도 하며, ‘소태산 박중빈’이라고도 한다. ‘대종사’의 호칭은 이 세상 모든 생령生靈1의 가장 큰 스승이라는 의미가 담겨 있다. 대다수의 원불교 교도는 ‘박중빈’이라는 이름이나 ‘소태산 박중빈’이라는 호칭은 사용하지 않는 편이다. 가장 많이 사용하는 호칭은 ‘대종사’ 또는 ‘소태산 대종사’이다. 소태산 대종사는 언제 어디서 탄생했으며, 어떠한 일을 하다 언제 열반涅槃2했는지에 대해서는 ‘제2장 소태산 대종사’에서 설명할 것이다.

 

Won-Buddhism is a new religion created by a new sage. To understand Won-buddhism, it is better to understand three words. They are Founding Master Sotaesan (少太山 大宗師), Il-won-Sang (一圓相) and Won-Buddhism (圓佛敎).

The Founding Master Sotaesan is the dharma name (法號. sotaesan) and the title of honor (尊稱. Founding Master)

 

The Founding Master Sotaesan can be abbreviated 'Founding Master' and called 'Park Chung-bin' (朴重彬’) or ‘Sotaesan Park Chung-bin’. The title of 'Founding Master' means the greatest teacher of all sentient beings in this world. Most of Won-buddhist don't use the name of ‘Park Chung-bin’ or the title ‘Sotaesan Park Chung-bin’. The most frequently used title is 'Founding Master' or 'Founding Master Sotaesan’. When and where Founding Master Sotaesan was born and what he did and when he passed into nirvana, are described in Chapter 2 'Founding Master Sotaesan'.
